Australia’s Gold Coast is targeting a surge in visitors from the Middle East during the Gulf summer, following a collective billion-dollar upgrade of hotels and attractions in the area.
Gold Coast Tourism reported recently that the AU$850 million (US$852 million), five-star twin residential towers of Peppers Broadbeach are now fully operational, while the AU$700 million, twin-tower Hilton Surfers Paradise is due for completion in mid-July, but is already welcoming guests through its first stage Boulevard Tower. Major refurbishment projects being undertaken at the Surfers Paradise Marriott Resort & Spa, Watermark Hotel & Spa, Jupiters Hotel, plus numerous other properties.
Gold Coast Tourism’s International Director, Gordon Price, said that the upgrades were timed perfectly to coincide with the arrival of visitors from the Middle East.
“By the time visitors from the Gulf arrive there will be a wide selection of five-star establishments to choose from on the Gold Coast, plus numerous other accommodation options to suit all tastes and budgets,” Price said.
“Most importantly all new and established Gold Coast properties remain mindful of the cultural and religious requirements of our Arab visitors, particularly during the holy Ramadan period.
“And once again a dedicated evening lounge facility will be offered free of charge, three nights a week in Surfers Paradise through August, where local and visiting Muslims can gather and meet from sunset.”
At the Hotel Grand Chancellor, where a range of Iftar F&B offerings plus shisha pipes are available, Arabic-speaking locals will be employed at tour information desks to help Middle Eastern guests. The new Hilton Surfers Paradise is also expecting a surge in Middle Eastern holiday-makers.
“Since the first stage of Hilton Surfers Paradise opened in December, we have experienced strong interest from international guests,” Hilton Surfers Paradise’s General Manager, David Kelly, said.
“We are already experiencing strong bookings from the Middle-Eastern market for the Ramadan period and look forward to welcoming many of our loyal Hilton customers from the Middle-East to our brand new facility ahead of our full opening in early August this year.”
The Gold Coast offers 70km of coastline, 100,000 hectares of world heritage-listed rainforest, numerous private islands plus more than 600 restaurants and cafes.
