The first carbon neutral meeting for Rezidor Hotel Group was held in Dubai recently. The annual event was launched by the group in 2012.
The uniqueness of the event was that the travel and event emissions of each attendee of the conference were calculated, taking into account distance and method of travelling, and corresponding CO2 footprint. The resulting contributions from the attendees will be used to benefit the global eco-system and renewable energy sources.
“Rezidor Hotel Group takes sustainability seriously. We are investing in our own Meetings Minus Carbon by Club Carlson for Planners initiative,” said Mark Willis area vice president, Middle East and Sub-Saharan Africa The Rezidor Hotel Group.
The carbon offsetting initiative, which is also offered as a free service for meeting planner members of Club Carlson, is managed through Carbon Footprint Ltd in the UK.
