Following the end of the world’s biggest sporting event, Olympic host Rio de Janeiro welcomed the world’s largest passenger aircraft for the first time this week.
The Airbus A380 touched down at Rio’s Galeao International Airport at 2025 on 22 August, following as direct flight from Paris Charles de Gaulle. The double-decker jet received a traditional water cannon salute upon arrival in Rio.
Following a recent upgrade, Galeao airport now offers three A380 parking stands. It is one of only four airports in Latin America which are able to handle the aircraft, following Mexico City, Cancun and Sao Paulo.
Air France now operates a fleet of 10 A380s to destinations in the US, China, Africa and Latin America.
