Rising sea levels are causing salt water toflow into India’s Ganges River, threatening its ecosystem and turning vastfarmlands barren in the country’s east, Reuters reported a climate changeexpert as warning.
Pranabes Sanyal, of the National Coastal ZoneManagement Authority (NCZMA), was reported saying that in some parts of the Bayof Bengal sea-levels were rising at an annual rate of 3.14mm, against a globalaverage of 2mm, threatening the low-lying areas of eastern India.
