Ritz-Carlton Riyadh prepares for opening

The Ritz-Carlton Hotel Company is preparing to open its first hotel in Saudi Arabia in the capital, Riyadh.The 493-room Ritz-Carlton, Riyadh is prominently situated within the Diplomatic Quarter and is next to the King Abdul Aziz Conference Centre, one of the largest exhibition centres in the region and host to international summits and conferences.Situated within 52 acres of landscaped gardens, the hotel was originally designed to be a royal guest palace for visiting dignitaries and heads of state. Native palms, 600-year old olive trees from Lebanon, and water fountains abound on the property, providing an oasis of serenity amidst the city centre.Highlights include 49 two-bedroom Royal Suites measuring more than 430 square metres and 50 two-bedroom, Executive Suites measuring 104 square metres, conference space measuring 5,800 square metres, including two ballrooms in a separate wing that are both identical in size at 1,970 square metres. They are complemented by two vast auditorium-styled theatres with stepped floors and built-in stages, and two restaurants that cater exclusively for delegates, journalists and accompanying security personnel.Leisure facilities include a swimming pool, a full-service health club and spa, tennis courts and a 1,000 square metre (10,700 square feet) six-lane indoor bowling alley.The Ritz-Carlton, Riyadh joins eight other Ritz-Carlton hotels and resorts currently operating or under development in the Middle East: Bahrain, Dubai, Sharm El Sheikh, Doha, Sharq Village & Spa, Dubai International Finance Centre, Abu Dhabi and Nile Cairo (opening in late 2011 and 2013 respectively).
