Royal Caribbean's Freedom of the Seas

A bus carrying 36 passengers from Royal Caribbean’s Freedom of the Seas crashed last Thursday in St. Maarten, in the Caribbean. The bus was on a ship-sponsored shore excursion to Loterie Farm.

No serious injuries were reported; ship’s medical staff and the line’s guest care staff accompanied six passengers to the Louis-Constant Fleming Hospital for treatment of minor injuries.

A spokesperson for Royal Caribbean told Cruise Critic that the most serious injury was a broken wrist with all passengers returning to the ship the same day. Onboard medical staff continued to provide treatment for those requiring further attention.

“This was a traffic accident, a type which can happen anywhere and is no reflection on the bus company,” a Royal Caribbean spokesperson told Cruise Critic. The bus driver had to take an evasive manoeuvre to avoid an oncoming vehicle.

St. Maarten newspaper Todaydisclosed that the oncoming vehicle was a smaller taxi bus with seven passengers onboard.  The taxi collided with the bus causing it to overturn. The driver of the taxi bus suffered a broken foot while his seven passengers sustained only minor injuries.
