Another new Chinese airline will take to the skies on Sunday (18 May 2014).
Ruili Airlines will launch flights from Kunming’s Changshui International Airport on 18 May 2014, flying direct to Dehong Mangshi Airport, in the west of Yunnan province.
The new carrier received its Air Operator’s Certificate (AOC) from Civil Aviation Administration of China (CAAC) on 6 May and will initially operate a fleet of three Boeing 737 aircraft. Other routes being launched this month will connect Kunming with Chengdu, Wenzhou and Nanchang, with flights to Beihai and Hefei following in June. In the coming years, Ruili plans to expand to a fleet of at least 18 B737s.
Ruili becomes the second new airline to launch in Yunnan province in the last month; in late April, regional carrier Yingan Airlines launched flights from Simao Airport in the city of Puer.
These carriers join several new companies to have taken advantage of the recent liberalisation of Chinese regulations governing new start-up airlines. Zhejiang Loong Airlines commenced operations from Hangzhou late last year, while Qingdao Airlines started operating in April. Other new carriers set to launch in the coming months include 9 Air, Donghai Airlines, Sutong Airlines and Urumqi Airlines.
Ruili Airlines is named after the city of Ruili, which lies in the far west of Yunnan province, on the border with Myanmar.
