Mirvac Hotels & Resorts has ceased management of its Sebel branded property, Reef House Resort & Spa. This change has come into effect following the purchase of the building by an Australian development company that already owns a number of properties throughout Australia including two operated by Rydges Hotels and Resorts. From today, the hotel will be managed Rydges Hotels and Resorts, while retaining its existing name.
A significant investment has been pledged by the new owners, David Horbelt and Malcolm Bean, that will refurbish the plantation-style building.
“The Reef House is our second boutique property having purchased Mount Lofty House together in May 2009. We have both considered the Reef House to be one of Australia’s best boutique properties over the years and are delighted to include it in our business portfolio,” said David and Malcolm.
“This is a very unique property in an extraordinary location and as such, requires a commitment and business vision, effectively with the heart leading the mind, to pursue its potential,” they added.
The Reef House Resort & Spa is located in Williams Esplanade overlooking Palm Cove beach and the Coral Sea. Another special characteristic surrounding the property are the 300 year-old heritage-listed Melaleuca (paper bark) trees.
David Horbelt and Malcolm Bean David Horbelt are long-term hotel investors with accommodation interests currently in Melbourne, Adelaide and now again in Palm Cove; having previously invested in the Grand Mercure, Drift.
Malcolm Bean enjoyed a 15 year career with Rydges spanning sales, management and business development roles. For the last three years he has worked independently in the field of hospitality consulting and in particular, David Horbelt’s company and its interests focussing on property and business development.
The Reef House is David’s second joint venture with Malcolm having co invested in Mount Lofty House in May 2009.
