Sabre has joined the growing number of travel technology providers taking measures against American Airlines, following the US carrier’s decision to remove its fares from Orbitz Worldwide. The GDS giant has made it more difficult to search and book American’s fares, eliminated booking fee discounts, and has said it will stop distributing American’s products altogether later this year. Sabre joins online travel agency Expedia in the ongoing battle with American, which is trying to encourage more bookings through its AA Direct system. The Texas-based airline called Sabre’s actions “discriminatory”, but appears to have little support. The Business Travel Coalition (BTC) has criticised the airline’s actions, saying they will “significantly increase costs” for distributers and consumers.
