Salalah airport witnesses a boost in traffic

The recent air traffic figures issued by the National Centre for Statistics and Information (NCSI) reprt that domestic and international traffic movements at Salalah Airport witnessed significant growth.
The total number of domestic and international flights reached 4,716 flights until July 2014, compared with 3,822 flights during the same period in 2013, reflecting a growth of 23.4%. Meanwhile, total number of domestic and international passengers recorded an increase of 15.6%, reaching 450,918 passengers, compared with 389,918 passengers during the same period in 2013.
The NCSI air movements report also reveals that number of international flights at Salalah Airport totalled 1,692 flights, increasing by 80.4% when compared with the same period in 2013 which registered a total of 938 flights. The total number of international passengers increased by 65.9% by the end of July 2014, reaching 131,786 passengers compared with 79,429 passengers recorded in the same period in 2013.
The total number of domestic flights at Salalah Airport increased by 4.9%, reaching 3,024 flights compared with 2,884 flights during the same period in 2013. Domestic passenger numbers also increased by 2.8% to 319,132 passengers by the end of July 2014 compared with 310,489 passengers during the same period in 2013.
During the same recording period, Muscat International Airport witnessed a significant growth in passenger numbers to the end of July 2014. The number of passengers passing through the airport reached 5,105,199 passengers, compared with 4,772,747 during the same period in 2013, reflecting an annual increase of seven percent. Additionally, total number of flights increased by 0.8%, reaching 46,852 flight movements, compared with 46,477 flights recorded during the same period in 2013.
The total number of international flights at Muscat International Airport remained largely unchanged, recording 41,296 flights by the end of July 2014, compared with 41,126 flights during the same period in 2013, representing an annual increase of 0.4%. The NCSI statistics also reveal the total number of international arrival, departure and transit passengers recorded at Muscat International Airport increased by 6.9%, reaching 4,651,120 passengers at the end of July 2014, compared with 4,349,025 passengers during the same period in 2013, this figure is represented by 2,299,549 arrival passengers, 2,332,284 departure passengers and 19,287 transit passengers. Transit passengers declined by 32.1% when compared with 28,386 transit passengers during the same period in 2013.
The total number of domestic flights at Muscat International Airport at the end of July 2014 reached 5,556flights compared to 5,351 flights during the same period in 2013, representing an increase of 3.8%. Meanwhile, while the total number of domestic passengers increased by 7.2%, reaching 454,079, compared with 423,722 passengers during the same period in 2013.
