The number of Saudi visitors to Dubai will top 2.5 million annually by 2020, according to Dubai Tourism.
This compares to 1.54 million arrivals in 2015, the entity’s CEO Issam Kazim recently told Arab media.
GCC countries account for some 25% of arrivals to Dubai with KSA the largest of the region’s source markets.
In the first quarter of 2016, 456,000 Saudis visited the destination, up 14% on the same period the previous year.
“Dubai tends to attract a huge number of tourists because of efforts to promote tourism potential based on the wide list of festivals and other attractive events,” said Kazim.
His comments coincide with a statement made by Dr. Mohammed Bin Abdul Rahman Al Bishr, ambassador of Saudi Arabia to the UAE, who told WAM news agency the UAE makes Saudi visitors, “feel at home”, as if they are “visiting any other Saudi city”.
Al Bishr also said Saudis chose to visit because of the “social relations, common traditions and customs between the two peoples, as well as services and safety provided by the host, whether in Abu Dhabi or Dubai”.
