The Saujana Hotel Kuala Lumpur is planning to establish itself as a key destination for the leisure and MICE markets, following the completion of a major renovation.
The revamp, which took nearly two years to complete, has seen all of the hotel’s 250 rooms overhauled, along with its meeting facilities and F&B outlets.
And speaking to Travel Daily this week, Peter Hourigan, Vice President of Operations at Saujana Hotels & Resorts, said he has high hopes for the revamped resort.
“The renovation was part of the group’s efforts in keeping up with the competitive edge of its products and services with the boom of new hotels within the Klang Valley,” he said. “The complete and comprehensive makeover brings a whole new level of hospitality amenities, services and facilities to our guests.”
One key part of the renovation was the resort’s MICE facilities, and Hourigan said he now plans to “aggressively tap” this sector, business both locally and regionally.
“Malaysia has emerged as one of the most preferred business and MICE destinations in Southeast Asia,” he said. “The revitalised function space includes the state-of-the-art Saujana Ballroom, which is accessible to other meeting rooms, providing accessibility to break-out rooms, thus making Saujana an ideal conference venue.
“The renovation also saw added meeting spaces with high-tech AV equipment to address the needs and requirements of meeting planners. Saujana has been a preferred teambuilding destination, and with the added space and guestrooms, the hotel will be able to address MICE requirements.”
Prior to the renovation, the Saujana relied mostly on the domestic market, with about 85% of its core rooms business coming from within Malaysia. Japan and Singapore are the resort’s two largest international markets, and while Hourigan said he does not anticipate any significant shift in guest demographics, he does foresee “growth in these market segments”.
The revamped resort has also become a member of Worldhotels, through which Hourigan said he hopes to “gain a wider online presence”, with “opportunities to increase room reservations and meeting inquiries”.
Overall, Hourigan said he is confident that the new facilities at the Saujana will enhance the resort’s position in the market.
“We aspire to be the most preferred urban resort and hotel choice to dine at, stay and meet in the Shah Alam district and also the Klang Valley,” he stated. “In terms of the global market… Saujana Hotels & Resorts hope to showcase Saujana’s unique Asian hospitality and experience to provide that locally-inspired experience.
“We believe in making our discerning international guests’ stay a memorable and enriching one, where everything revolves around them with our warm, kind personalised attention and service from the heart to make them feel at home, relaxed and comfortable,” Hourigan concluded.
