Brisbane International Airport is asking friends and family to stay away this weekend, news.com.au has reported. Authorities have issued the plea to ease pressure on the airport’s car parks, cafes and other facilities as construction work at the airport continues. This weekend also sees of school holidaymakers and thousands of arrivals for World Youth Day.
“We are asking passengers and their families and friends where possible to assist us this weekend by farewelling (sic) those involved as much as possible from home, and use alternative means of transport to the airport such as CoachTrans, taxis or Airtrain to get to the terminal,” said Stephen Goodwin, General Manager of Operations for the Brisbane Airport Corporation.
The $2.5 billion international terminal makeover is expected to be complete by November, and will increase annual passenger capacity to 8 million. However this is way overdue for Queensland residents who have been complaining for several years about undercapacity at Brisbane.
