Indonesian national flag carrier Garuda Indonesia is painting the “Visit Indonesia Year 2008” logos on its planes.
Last Friday, Culture and Tourism Minister Jero Wacik inaugurated the use of logo, saying the logo goes a long way in attracting more tourists.
“When Malaysia launched its Visit Malaysia Year 2007, all Malaysian airplanes carried the VMY 2007 logo,” he was quoted saying by Antara news agency.
He was quoted saying that Malaysia was able to attract 15 million foreign tourists by painting its VMY 2007 logo on its airplanes.
But he acknowledged that with only US$10 million available for tourism promotion, Indonesia could only manage five million tourists. By contrast, he said, Malaysia spent US$80 million.
Garuda Indonesia President Director Emirsyah Satar was quoted saying that all Garuda planes will carry the logo.
