More than three million tourists visited Shanghai during the recent Spring Festival period, up 16% compared to the corresponding period last year, recently-released figures from the Shanghai Tourism Administration have shown. Tourism revenues during
this period totalled CNY2.6 billion (US$396 million). The number of Shanghai residents leaving the city during the Spring Festival period declined 3%. Approximately 1,000 of these had planned to visit Egypt, but were forced to cancel their trips due to the unrest in the North African country.
