Shanghai unveils new air terminal

China has opened a new mega airport terminal in Shanghai, a month after opening the country’s biggest airport building in Beijing.
The new terminal at Shanghai’s Pudong International Airport – the country’s second largest terminal can handle 60million passengers a year, China Daily said.
Wu Nianzu, chairman of the Shanghai airport authority, was quoted saying: “The move is an important step in helping Shanghai become an international air hub.”
Pudong’s Terminal 2 is located east of the existing terminal, and covers an area of 546,000 sq m, twice the size of its first terminal.
According to the report quoting the Shanghai airport authority, the new structure would reduce domestic-to-domestic and international-to-inter-national transfer times to about 45 minutes.
Domestic-to-international transfers would take about 60 minutes.
Meanwhile in Beijing, Air China and United Airlines joined 18 other carriers opening for business at the dragon-shaped Terminal 3 (T3), the report said.
