Shangri-La today opens a new hotel in Manzhouli, the city in northeastern China, on the border with Russia. The new 18-storey Shangri-La Hotel Manzhouli becomes the group’s third hotel in China’s Inner Mongolia region following properties in Hohhot and Baotou.
The property includes 235 rooms including 24 suites, designed with Chinese and Mongolian soft furnishings. The rooms have views of Xiaobei Lake, the city or the expansive grasslands and mountains beyond the city. Floors 15-17 are club floors, with guests offered access to the 1,000-square-metre Horizon Club Lounge on the 18th floor.
The hotel also features three restaurants, serving Cantonese, Northern Chinese, and international cuisine. A series of private dining rooms are designed in the style of Mongolian yurts. A new speciality restaurant, Salt and Bread, will open in June offering traditional Russian cuisine and music.
The hotel houses the city’s largest health club, spreading across 1,286 square metres on the third floor, with a 25-metre indoor heated swimming pool, steam bath, sauna, a hair salon and massage facilities. The hotel also features more than 4,000 square metres of meeting space and a 24-hour business centre.
“We are delighted to bring to Manzhouli the Shangri-La brand,” said Greg Dogan, President & CEO of Shangri-La International Hotel Management Ltd. “Manzhouli is one of China’s most important trading ports and a growing tourist destination. Our new hotel will cater to the increasing demand for international luxury hotels in this city and will further strengthen Shangri-La’s presence in mainland China, which remains the key focus of the group’s expansion plan in Asia.”
Manzhouli is easily accessible via either air or train from Beijing, Guangzhou, Dalian and Harbin, as well as from Moscow and Chita in Russia.
