Singapore, Tuesday, September 15, 2009: Singapore-based destination management company City DMC and Jet Airways, India’s most awarded airline, today jointly announced the launch of a new web based stopover portal – www. showmesingapore.com/jetairways - with the primary aim of promoting Singapore to more travellers in India.
Uniquely, this portal allows travelers in the source markets, like India, to book hotels and attractions online at a one-stop shop.
This is the first commercially driven effort to boost visitor arrivals into Singapore led by City DMC, in collaboration with launch airline, Jet Airways.
The other launch partners are Bintan Resorts, Changi Airport Group, Resorts World Sentosa, Sentosa 4D Magix & Cineblast and Wildlife Reserves Singapore (Jurong Bird Park, Night Safari and Singapore Zoo).
For City DMC, this stopover portal is a key component in its plans to build a bigger footprint in the region. The portal is supported by hotel and attraction deals it has secured regionally in Asia to provide create attractive stopover options for travelers in key regional destinations, for example Singapore.
“Over 37 million passengers passed through Changi Airport in 2008. Just under 11 million passengers entered Singapore”, said Mr Ang Eu Khoon, Managing Director of City DMC, ” This portal is aimed at attracting the low hanging fruit of the millions of airline passengers who skip Singapore without stopping over. We want to entice them to visit Singapore with attractive online hotel and top attraction offers”, added Mr Ang.
“This hassle free web based portal has been developed to leverage Jet Airways’ massive network in India and its strong online web penetration presence. The aim is to encourage more Indian travelers to visit Singapore or plan a stopover when flying beyond Singapore, ” said Mr Gerry Oh, Regional Vice President for Jet Airways.
In 2008, visitor arrivals from India increased 24.4% over 778,000. However for the period January to July 2009, visitor arrivals from India fell 11% to 426,000 visitors due to the global economic crisis.
“This stopover portal will reach our customers more effectively in India, including South East Asia and Australia; encourage them to fly jet Airways and also visit Singapore. Importantly, we hope this portal will do a better job at turning around the declining visitor arrival trend from India,” added Mr. Oh.
Singapore is the first destination for City DMC’s web based “showme” platform and other major destinations are in the pipeline.
The portal www.showmesingapore.com/jetairways features a dynamic homepage which highlights Singapore’s more popular attractions. The animation was developed locally and it features an itinerary planner, photo gallery, online postcards, airline booking facility, hotel booking feature and capability to purchase attraction tickets.
One of the strongest features of the portal is its built-in photo competition and send-a-friend post card facility. Travelers who post their travel pictures about their visit to Singapore stand a chance to win free trips back to Singapore if their photographs secure the highest online votes. Voters also stand a chance to win free trips to Singapore.
