Singapore Airlines and Air New Zealand have unveiled details of their new joint venture, which goes on sale this week.
Commencing on 6 January 2015, the Star Alliance partners will each operate one daily return service between Singapore and Auckland, while SIA will also commence a daily flight between Singapore and Christchurch. But both airlines will place their codes on all the flights.
The two Singapore-Auckland flights will depart the Southeast Asian city at 0850 and 2050, arriving in New Zealand’s largest city at 2345 and 1145 the following day respectively. Return flights leave Auckland at 0115 and 1330, arriving back into Singapore at 0645 and 1900.
On the Christchurch route, SIA’s flight will depart Changi Airport at 1945, arriving at 1040 the next day. It will then leave the South Island city at 1200, getting back into Singapore at 1740.
“This alliance is a clear example of how our two airlines can do more by working together than we could do individually,” said SIA’s CEO, Goh Choon Phong. “Through increased frequency between Singapore and New Zealand and new codeshare destinations, it provides numerous benefits to our customers.”
SIA will also deploy its Airbus A380 to New Zealand for the first time, using the 471-seat, double-decker aircraft on the Singapore-Auckland sector during the northern winter season. It will then revert to the Boeing 777-300 for the summer season. The Auckland-Christchurch route will be served using a Boeing 777-200 aircraft.
Air New Zealand will operate its newly-refurbished Boeing 777-200 on the Auckland-Singapore route, including its ‘Economy Skycouch’ product that converts a row of three economy class seats into a flat bed.
