Singapore Airlines (SIA) has announced plans to launch Airbus A380 services on the Singapore-Frankfurt-New York (JFK) route from 16 January 2012. New York will be SIA’s 10th A380 destination, and its second in the US after Los Angeles. The daily A380 flights will replace an existing Boeing 747-400 service to New York’s JFK airport via Frankfurt, representing a daily seat capacity increase of 25%.
“The introduction of the A380 to Frankfurt and New York is another milestone for Singapore Airlines. For the United States, our customers will be able to enjoy the latest cabin products on all routes, in addition to having the A380 serving both east and west coasts,” said Mak Swee Wah, SIA’s Executive Vice President – Commercial.
SIA currently has 13 A380s in service and a further six on firm order. The double-decker aircraft is configured with 471 seats – 399 in Economy Class, 60 in Business Class and 12 First Class Suites.
