Singapore Airlines (SIA) has announced a product upgrade on daily morning flights (SQ421/422) between Mumbai and Singapore.
A part of the larger global investment of USS95million to refit 10 Boeing 777-200ER aircraft with new long haul cabin products, this upgrade will take effect from 31 March 2013. The retrofitted B777-200ER aircraft will offer long-haul comfort with additional space similar to those currently deployed on one of the two evening flights between Mumbai and Singapore, which is operated with the B777-300ER.
With the product upgrade, Singapore Airlines passengers from Mumbai will experience long-haul comfort and space on 2 of the 3 daily flights to Singapore. The enhancements include Business Class seats in 1-2-1 configuration that convert into full-flat beds and wider in-flight entertainment screen sizes for both Business and Economy class.
G M Toh, General Manager for India at SIA said, “This strategic investment of deploying long-haul product on the medium-haul Mumbai-Singapore route illustrates our commitment to the Indian market. We continue to see strong growth on this route and are always looking at ways to improve our in-flight products to provide more comfort to our customers.”
In Business class, the seat unfolds into a fully flat bed and features in-flight entertainment system along with a 15.4 inch LCD monitor and an extensive selection of audio and video programmes. The 1-2-1 forward facing cabin configuration offers all customers direct access to the aisle. The Economy class will be upgraded to personal LCD monitors offering 10.6 inches with 1,000 entertainment options.
The first refitted B777-200ER aircraft was operated on Singapore-Amsterdam route on 13 January 2013. Subsequent refitted aircraft will be deployed to Mumbai (starting 31 March 2013), Auckland, Christchurch, Sydney, Copenhagen, Cape Town, Istanbul and Rome.
