Ultra luxury cruise line Silversea has appointed its first ever female captain, Margrith Ettlin – the first in the company’s twenty year history.
Ettlin has taken control of the 132-passenger Silver Explorer – taking up the position on 7 August in Reykjavik – with her first stint in charge extending into October.
“We’re very pleased and proud to extend this promotion to Captain Ettlin,” said Christian Sauleau, Silversea’s executive vice president of fleet operations. “Although we’re not the first cruise company to have a female captain, we hope Captain Ettlin’s achievement will inspire other women to pursue careers at sea.”
Swiss born Ettlin has spent time with both Hapag Lloyd and German shipping group F. Laeisz
