SilkAir will launch flights to two destinations in Laos this year, expanding the Singapore Airlines group network to all 10 ASEAN countries.

From 31 October 2016, SilkAir, SIA’s regional subsidiary, will offer three weekly flights (Mondays, Thursdays and Saturdays) from Singapore to Vientiane. The service will then continue onwards to the UNESCO-listed northern Lao city of Luang Prabang before heading back to Singapore.

This triangular route will be operated using SilkAir’s two-class Airbus A320 aircraft.

“Southeast Asia has always been an important market for us and with the start of flights to Vientiane and Luang Prabang, we will offer travellers connectivity to every country in Southeast Asia,” said SilkAir’s chief executive, Leslie Thng.

“We believe that this new service has great potential, as more travellers turn their interest to Southeast Asia and destinations such as Laos. This new service will also allow Laotians increased connectivity to the rest of the world via Singapore.”

The new flight will depart Singapore at 1420 and arrive in Vientiane at 1615. It will then leave the Lao capital at 1705 and touchdown in Luang Prabang at 1800. The inbound flight will depart Luang Prabang at 1850 and arrive back in Singapore at 2305.

Following the launch of Vientiane and Luang Prabang, the number of destinations in SilkAir’s route network will increase to 51 in 14 countries: Australia, Cambodia, China, India, Indonesia, Laos, Malaysia, Maldives, Myanmar, Nepal, Philippines, Thailand, Vietnam and Singapore. SIA also flies to Brunei, completing the 10 ASEAN countries in the group’s network.
