Reports say rates at trackside hotels in Singapore are seeing dizzying rates as the city’s first Formula One Grand Prix race gets into motion. ChannelNews Asia said most hotels that line the track were quoting good business; with some saying they had already confirmed bookings for 50 to 95% of the rooms.
The Penthouse Suite at Fairmont Hotel – normally costing S$5,000 a night, will go for S$13,800 (US$10,000). Some 70% of the other rooms at the hotel – priced S$1,320 onwards for a night during the F1 week - have been booked, the report said, quoting General Manager Ian Wilson.
Another trackside hotel, the Marina Mandarin, was quoted saying that more than half of its rooms had been booked for the F1 period. The Ritz Carlton Millenia Singapore was quoted saying it was full to the brim during the F1 period. Others quoted in the report such as the Fullerton, Mandarin Oriental and Pan Pacific Hotel did not reveal the take-up rates but were quoted saying that their rooms would go at three to four times more.
