Cunard Line’s Queen Elizabeth ship will have nine single accommodation cabins added during its current dry-dock period, the cruise line has announced.
The new single staterooms will be on deck two and fitted by re-modelling part of the ship’s casino. Eight will be in a new grade of Ocean View staterooms while the ninth will be a standard inside room.
The ship arrived at the Blohm & Voss shipyard in Hamburg today for a multi-million refit which will also include improved restaurant facilities and enhanced staterooms.
The informal Lido restaurant will be refurbished so hot drinks can be served with all meals and to improve the layout flow.
New carpets and flat-screen televisions will be installed in the staterooms, while outside there will be more shade on the decks.
The onboard ships will also be expanded with new jewellery and watch shops.
“Queen Elizabeth is already a much-loved ship and following this mulit-million pound refit she is sure to shine brightly for years to come,” said Angus Struthers, marketing director at Cunard. “Whilst there has been investment across the ship, we are particularly delighted to announce that following this refit, there will be staterooms for single travellers onboard a Cunard ship for the first time since QE2.”
The ship will also go through maintenance checks and have scrubber technology installed to minimise its environmental impact.
Queen Elizabeth will leave the dock on 1 June to sail to Southampton ahead of its 4 June sailing to Amsterdam.
