SMD celebrates the first flight into UAE

Reminiscing the past, the Sharjah Museums Department (SMD) celebrated the 80th anniversary of landing of the first plane in UAE.
On 5th of October 1932 at 4pm, the first aircraft landed on the Al Mahatta runway en route to Bahrain. The Hanno, a British-made, four-propeller Handley Page HP42 biplane was piloted by Captain Horsey.
The celebrations included a special programme featuring various events, to showcase the history and evolution of aviation in Sharjah and the UAE through the Al Mahatta Museum. In celebration of the Hanno’s landing, an Auster plane took to the skies of Sharjah this October. Amidst a festive atmosphere, the 1940s- British Auster aircraft will make its third flight to mark the 80th anniversary.
