Sofitel Philippine Plaza Manila closes from flooding

Heavy rain caused by a typhoon has struck the Philippine capital Manila,causing destruction to the Sofitel hotel in the city.
Flooding in the downtownManila bay from typhoon Pedring has spread to the lower level of the SofitelPhilippine Plaza Manila, cutting off power supply and telephone service to theproperty. None of the guests or staff sustained injuries and all guests havenow been moved to other hotels. The hotel is now closed and those with forward bookingshave been asked to reschedule.
“The hotelwill continue to ensure the safety of all concerned, monitor the development ofthe situation and liaise closely with the local authorities to ensure that allnecessary measures are anticipated and attended to,” its statement said.
