Special flight marks arrival of Virgin Australia’s 100th B737

Virgin Australia has celebrated the arrival of its 100th Boeing 737.
The landmark aircraft touched down in Sydney on Monday 5 August 2013 and will enter service on Tuesday, initially operating the daily Sydney-Melbourne route.
But prior to its commercial debut, the aircraft took 100 children from the Starlight Children’s Foundation for special trip over Sydney. The trip included cockpit tours, games, songs and a lunch service designed by the airline’s head chef, Luke Mangan. There was also an in-flight guest appearance from boy band, The Collective.
“As Starlight’s official wish granting partner, we are delighted to use the arrival of our new aircraft to create a special experience for children who need it the most,” said Danielle Keighery, Virgin Australia’s group executive of corporate communications. “Capturing the essence of Starlight’s inspiring work, today is about giving these families the opportunity to enjoy some fun time together.
“We are passionate about giving the opportunity to experience the excitement and adventure of air travel and we are very proud to support the vital work the Starlight Children’s Foundation carries out around the country,” she added.
Virgin Australia’s crew and pilots volunteered their time for the maiden flight, while Shell donated the jet fuel and Sydney Airport waived the landing fees.
