S’pore honours best in business events

Awarded by the SingaporeTourism Board, the seven winners/organisations were recognised for their partin contributing to the industry and raising the city’s standing as a premierbusiness travel destination.
The winners are:

Exhibition of the Year: Food&Hotel Asia2006. Organised by Singapore Exhibition Services Business Event Venue Excellence of the Year: Suntec Singapore Service Partner Excellence of the Year: Kingsmen Exhibits Pte Ltd Most Innovative Marketing Initiative: Suntec Singapore’s Joint Marketing Alliance Business Event Ambassador of the Year: Dr Choo Teck Chuan, Programme Director, FDI World Dental Federation
“The winners of the Awardswill serve as torch-bearers for the Singapore and regional MICEindustry, setting the bar for future award recipients and inspiring excellencein the industry,” said Aloysius Arlando, Assistant Chief Executive, BusinessTravel and MICE Group, STB.
“Their contributions willhelp to raise Singapore’sprofile as a premier MICE destination.”
The winners were selectedfrom a list of 21 by an international panel of judges.
Speaking at the event, the Minister for Trade andIndustry Lim Hng Kiang said last year, the Business Travel/MICE (meeting,Incentives, Convenions and Exhibitions) industry raked in S$4 billion, a thirdof total tourism receipts.
Some 3 million visitors (28% of the total arrivals)who came to Singaporelast year were identified as BTMICE visitors.
He identified the partnership between the STB and theprivate sector in bringing new events into Singapore, for instance, theSingapore International Water Week.
It is the first flagship event in the waterandenvironment cluster developed in close partnershipamong the STB, PublicUtilities Board and the Water Industry Development Council.
