Sports facilities aboard Royal Princess unveiled
Princess Cruises has unveiled the sports and fitness facilities that will feature aboard its 141,000-ton Royal Princess when she is introduced in spring 2013.
The ship will feature the Princess Sports Central on decks 18 and 19, offering outdoor space for court games; lawn activities and a lounge for virtual gaming. The centre court can be used for basketball, tennis, volleyball and badminton, while a batting cage can be set up for baseball fans and golfers can practise on the driving range. New features include a simulator laser shooting range; a double lane jogging track and a new circuit programme at intervals on the track.
In addition the ship will have its Fitness Center on Deck 17 as part of the Lotus Spa, which houses a new aerobics area at the back of the gym that will host a selection of fitness classes. TRX suspension training exercise classes will also be available as well as Body Sculpt bootcamps and Chi Ball Yoga classes.
Also new to Royal Princess is ‘MyRide’, which offers the opportunity to ride through scenic landscapes from around the world, with varying levels of intensity controlled by the user.
The 3600-passenger Royal Princess is currently under construction at the Fincantieri shipyard in Italy.
Among new features found onboard will be a 50 percent larger atrium, the social hub of the ship; dramatic over-water SeaWalk, a top-deck glass-bottomed walkway that extends more than 28 feet beyond the edge of the ship plus plush poolside cabanas that appear to be floating over the water.
