Emirates Airlines resumed flights in and out of Colombo on the 15th of July, and SaharaAirlines resumed their 2 a.m. flight on the 22nd July.
The Chairman of the Tourist Board Renton de Alwis, have been reportedto say that with the Kandy Perehera season round the corner and other majorevents being planned to attract tourists, these two airlines returned to theirold schedules will have a further positive impact on the tourism industry.
Further, Sri Lankahas a positive outlook this will give travellers the convenience of bookingconnecting flights in anticipation to their upcoming events, such as the AIDSConference in Colombothat it expects to attract 3000 visitors together with about 30,000 more forthe cricket and rugby organised during this time of the year.
The stabilising condition of Colombo’s International Airportat Katunayake will hopefully gain strong confidence from visitors and soonimprove tourism arrivals and regain Colombo’sposition as a hub for international flights.
