Between Nov 07 and Feb 08 the vessel will offer itineraries ranging from seven to 26 nights, visiting Darwin, Fremantle, Melbourne, Adelaide, Brisbane and Sydney as well as the Whitsunday Islands off the coast of Queensland and Broome in north-western Australia.
The 800-passenger SuperStar Gemini will also visit the port of Milne Bay in Papua New Guinea as part of a 17-night voyage from Sydney to Fremantle.
Star spokesperson Mick Dupont described Australia as an “exciting and potentially large opportunity for Star Cruises.
“Outside our domestic Far East market, Australia and the UK are our largest passenger source regions and we are confident that the new cruise options down under will excite both of these significant markets,” he said. Star Cruises said that taking a holiday aboard an international cruise ship without the hassles of airport security and hotel transfers has become “increasingly appealing” and expected this to be a factor in the appeal of the product to Australians.
The last time Star operated in Australian waters was 2003, when it deployed SuperStar Leo and SuperStar Virgo down under during the SARS epidemic.
During Gemini‘s upcoming season in Australia her bigger sister ship, the 1800-passenger SuperStar Virgo will continue to operate regular weekly five-night cruises out of Singapore.
