Star Cruises will base its SuperStar Aquarius liner in Sanya from next month, becoming the first cruise company to homeport in the Hainan Island resort destination. The 765-cabin SuperStar Aquarius will operate a new Sanya-Vietnam itinerary, calling at Halong Bay, Danang and Hue.
Michael Goh, Star Cruises’ Senior Vice President of Sales, revealed the plan on Wednesday at a tourism seminar in Haikou, Hainan’s provincial capital.
“Star Cruises takes pride in being the first international cruise line operator that pioneered cruise holiday in China and now SuperStar Aquarius will become the first international cruise ship to homeport in Hainan,” Goh told delegates.
“The new Sanya-Vietnam cruise is set to heighten the tourism industry’s attention on Hainan, attracting both domestic and international holidaymakers and travellers. We are confident that the SuperStar Aquarius cruise will play an integral role to propel Hainan to become an important international cruise hub,” he added.
The new itineraries range from two to three nights and include excursions to all three Vietnamese ports of call.
Designed specifically to cater to Chinese tourists, the SuperStar Aquarius, which recently underwent a US$1.6 million refurbishment, includes an 18-hole mini golf course, a driving range and a new wine and cigar Lagoon Bar.
