Starwood Hotels & Resorts Worldwide, which already has 20 hotels in the pipeline for the Middle East region, is looking to add 20 more properties in two to three years, Reuters has reported.
“Countries like Lebanon, Syria, Saudi, and Oman could do with a lot more hotels,” the firm’s President for Europe, Africa and Middle East, Roeland Vos, told the news service.
Starwood has also announced plans to open its first W Hotel in the UAE.
W Abu Dhabi will open in 2013 under an agreement with UAE-based Belbadi.
The 350-room property will be located on the waterfront of Al Bateen Wharf and part of a multi-component development, including high-end retail stores, restaurants and residences.
Starwood currently operates close to 50 hotels throughout the Middle East under seven of its nine brands, including more than 20 hotels in the UAE.
W Abu Dhabi will be the W brand’s third hotel in the Middle East, following the openings of W Doha Hotel & Residences (opened in 2009) and W Amman, scheduled to open in 2012.
