Starwood Hotels & Resorts will re-establish a presence in Okinawa next year with the launch of a new Sheraton resort.
Scheduled to open in mid-2016, the Sheraton Okinawa Sunmarina Resort will be located directly on Sunmarina Beach. Formerly known as the Sunmarina Hotel, the property will undergo an extensive renovation, including the construction of a brand new tower that will add 45 rooms to the resort in early 2017.
“Starwood is thrilled to be re-entering Okinawa with its most global and iconic brand, Sheraton,” said Lothar Pehl, the company’s senior vice president of operations & global initiatives for Asia Pacific.
“Sheraton is set to add more than 150 new hotels globally by the year 2020, and the signing of Sheraton Okinawa Sunmarina Resort underscores the brand’s accelerated growth trajectory.”
Once the new tower is complete, Sheraton Okinawa Sunmarina Resort will feature 245 rooms and suites, three F&B outlets, a large outdoor pool, a marina, fitness facilities, tennis courts and spa. It will also offer more than 350m² of function space.
Located on Okinawa’s main island, the beachfront hotel is approximately 80 minutes’ drive from Naha Airport. It will become the ninth Sheraton hotel in Japan, and joins shortly after the opening of the Sheraton Hokkaido Kiroro Resort.
