Prince Sultan bin Salman, president of the Saudi Commission for Tourism and Antiquities (SCTA), has said that heritage villages in the Kingdom should be viewed as important economic projects which will generate income for locals through tourism, besides preserving history.
Prince Sultan laid the foundation stone for the first phase of Sodos Heritage Town project, as reported by Arab News, which is being developed to promote tourism in the area. “Sodos town will also be a source of income and jobs for residents once it is developed,” he said.
“No one will know the story of this place unless one comes here, and one will not come here unless this place becomes more attractive,” he said, adding that the project was being undertaken in coordination with the mayor and residents of Al-Diriyah, Al-Uaninia, Sodos township and the SCTA.
“We are very happy and optimistic of this solidarity and cooperation and we are committed to come out with an integrated project that would be outstanding in the interest of the people of this region. The project not only concerns the Sodos people, but everyone in the Kingdom as Sodos is a dear town that represents a page in our history as well as the history of the Arabian Peninsula,” he said.
He also commended the residents for their keenness to develop their heritage village, and to bring them to life, rehabilitate them and open them to visitors.
