Residents of Sydney have been offered money to leave the city and resettle in rural parts of New South Wales. With the population of Sydney forecast to grow by 40% by 2050, and the city suffering water shortages, the NSW state government is now offering AU$7,000 (US$7,500) grants to help people buy homes in ‘the bush’.
As well as helping to manage to Sydney’s urban problems, the scheme is also intended to boost the economy of rural communities, many of which have suffered as a result of a serious drought.
