Taiwan has approached Indian civil aviation authorities to explore possible bilateral aviation agreements in order to boost tourism.
At present, only China Airlines flies three times a week which has actually fallen from the earlier schedule five flights a week because of a shortage in fleet capacity.
Taiwan has already relaxed visa regulations for Indian nationals in a bid to claim a corner of the growng outbound market but only about 13,000 Indians visited Taiwan last year, compared to 30,000 Taiwanese who visited India.
Taiwan is keen that Indian tour operators include Taipei in the itinerary that covers Hong Kong, Macau, Singapore and other destinations in the region.
But officials blame the low Indian arrivals on poor awareness of Taiwan as a travel destination within the India outbound market, rather than connectivity.
Tourism officials were advised to rectify the dearth of awareness first and Taiwan tourism authorities are now marketing various attractions in India such as the history museum, shore activities, gardens, shopping and historical links.
