Taiwan and China appear to be taking the term”bridge building” a little too literally. According to a ChannelNews Asiareport, the Taipei government is considering building a cross-Strait bridgelinking to mainland China.
Taiwan’s President, Ma Ying-jeou, has reportedly asked Taiwan’s top economicplanners to conduct a feasibility study when he visited Kinmen, aTaiwan-controlled fortified island group off the Chinese mainland, in August.
The bridge would link Kinmen with Xiamen, in China’s Fujian province, at a costof up to TW$13.2 billion (US$390.5 million).
