Taiwan has provided US$3 million to keep the only air link for Kiritimati (Christmas Island) operational, the Fiji Times has reported. Taiwan reportedly paid money to operator Air Pacific, which it was owed by the Kiribati government.
Fiji-based Air Pacific had been providing a weekly charter service to Kiritimati using its Boeing 737-700 from Tarawa, Kiribati, via Fiji, but said last month it would be halting the service due to the unpaid bills.
