British Airways and Unite met last night in an attempt to settle the ongoing dispute as strikes continue into its 11th day. “We spoke with Unite yesterday at Acas and talks will resume at a later date,” a BA spokesperson told Travel Daily. Discussions lasted over six hours and it is expected further talks will take place tomorrow. Previous meetings over the last weekend were disrupted when protestors from the Socialist Workers Party stormed into the building they were in. Unite Joint Secretary Tony Woodley said the weekend’s meeting was the first time he had “genuinely thought there was a bit of effort going in to settle this”. The airline has also denied Unite’s claims that BA managers have tried to entice striking members back to work. Unite reported that cabin crew had been called at home with offers to long-haul trips to Rio and Hong Kong. Meanwhile, as 123 of its 290 scheduled flights were cancelled today, BA maintained that it would operate 60% of its long-haul flights and 50% of it short-haul destinations. Routes that have been affected include LA, Phoenix, Johannesburg and domestic flights to Manchester and Glasgow. Business flights to Geneva and Charles de Gaulle have also been disrupted. Aer Lingus, Qantas and Finnair have all helped BA to fly during the strikes under the BA codeshare.
