Brazilian airline TAM has joined oneworld as part of the LATAM Airlines Group merger.
Passengers traveling with the carrier, previously part of Star Alliance, will now be able to have the same benefits as partner airline LAN Airlines as well as other members LAN Argentina, LAN Colombia, LAN Ecuador and LAN Peru.
TAM’s affiliate airline TAM Mercosur in Paraguay is also set to join the alliance soon.
Benefits will include an enhanced frequent flier programme, with TAM Fidelidade members able to receive double points for all oneworld flights in May 2014.
In addition TAM will gain access to special oneworld fares and will be included in the round-the-world prices.
“We have made the best choice for LATAM Airlines Group. With oneworld, our passengers will have even more benefits on their journeys, including better connections and more options for destinations. We made a seamless transition and can now celebrate this milestone with our customers and our new partners. We wish everyone in oneworld a warm welcome to Brazil,” said Marco Antonio Bologna, chief executive at TAM.
US Airways also joins oneworld today as part of its merger with American Airlines. Sri Lankan Airlines will become a member on 1 May.
