TAM establishes commercial base in China

TAM Airlines has launched a new commercial base in Beijing, China. The Brazilian airline plans to extend its presence in China with new services and by strengthening its relationship with domestic travel agents.
By expanding its operations in China, the company continues its strategy of targeting new passengers from the Asian market through a commercial policy devised for the region. The company’s aim is to introduce its services to the Chinese market and strengthen its relationship with the country’s travel agents and existing and potential clients. Since 2009, TAM has operated Beijing to Sao Paulo flights via Madrid in a code share agreement Air China. However with the opening of new offices in Asia, firm intentions are there to expand.
Paulo Castello Branco, Commercial and Alliance vice-president of TAM, said; “China is one of Brazil’s largest commercial partners and a leading destination for Brazilian exports in 2010, facts which result in significant passenger and cargo traffic between the two countries. It is an excellent opportunity for us to earn new revenue.”
With a swell of outbound tourists stemming from China, it is definitely a hot growth market for Brazilian tourism which saw a 34% yoy increase in Chinese arrivals lat year.
