Tasmania, Australia has registered a 10% year-on-year growth inarrivals from the UK. The latest figures showed a rise in visitor nights and expenditure,with a 2% increase in average length of stay to 15 nights.
Around 22,000 Britsvisited the area last year, which the government has attributed to new productsincluding a luxury lodge, the opening of the Museum of Old and New Art and thestate’s World Heritage listing last year.
“This is a fantastic result for Tasmaniain challenging times. First and foremost it is a reflection of theenormous passion and commitment that is demonstrated by our trade partners herein the UK who have taken Tasmania to their hearts,” said Susie de Carteret, UKmanager for Tasmania. “We are increasingly positioning Tasmania as a stand-alonedestination rather than an add-on to the mainland, and we now view destinationssuch as New Zealand, South Africa and Canada as part of our competitive set”.
