Thai AirAsia is focusing on sports marketing to promote the airline among Thai consumers. Projecting a ‘fun and friendly’ brand image, the carrier has just sign contracts with nine football teams in the Thai Premier League and Division 1. Sports sponsorship now eclipses the company’s expenditure on music advertising which cost TNB40 million (US$1.4 million) last year. Chief Executive Tassapon Bijleveld told the Bangkok Post; “We have seen the increasing importance of sports marketing, which enables us to reach a wider audience.” The nine football teams have a combined audience of three million people.
