A Thai Airways A330-300 has skidded off the runway at Bangkok’s Suvarnabhumi Airport.
The aircraft, which was returning from Guangzhou, suffered a landing gear malfunction which caused the accident, Thai Airways president Sorajak Kasemsuvan said.
The carrier also blacked out its Thai Airways insignia from the side of the plane after the incident, something the airline calls “de-identification” which is a policy it generally practices after an incident. The carrier stressed that it was not a Star Alliance policy.

The heavy landing caused sparks to the right of the landing gear, near the engine, and the episode is now being investigated.
The airline has confirmed that 13 people were taken to hospital with minor injuries while evacuating the aircraft. There were 288 passengers and 14 cabin crew onboard.
The news comes a matter of weeks after the carrier reported heavy turbulence on a flight to Hong Kong, hospitalising 20 passengers and crew.
