Thailand-based airline, Kan Air, has announced plans to build an airport in the southern Thai border province of Satun. The Bangkok Post reported the company’s President, Somphong Sooksanguan as saying that the carrier has acquired approximately 128 hectares of land in the province, which borders Malaysia, and plans to develop an airport which will eventually be able to handle jet aircraft, such as the Airbus A320. If the development does ahead, it would provide a boost for the Malaysian island of Langkawi, which is accessible by ferry from Satun, as well as the Thai national marine park area around Koh Tarutao. The airport will reportedly cost THB400 million (US$13.4 million) to build.Meanwhile, Sooksanguan also said that he plans to acquire three more planes – two single-aisle Airbus jets and one Cessna turboprop aircraft. Kan Air currently offers domestic flights in northern Thailand.
