THAI announces India expansion

Thai Airways International has announced its route adjustments for the forthcoming winter schedules, with significant expansion to India that will see an additional nine flights a week to and from Bangkok. The airline will boost its Indian services, increasing flights to Kolkata from five flights a week to daily services, and to Mumbai from daily to twice daily flights. THAI will also increase it services to Japan. From the start of the new schedules on 31 October 2010, the national carrier will expand its Japanese offerings with the launch of a new daily service to Tokyo’s Haneda airport. It also announced plans to increase frequency to Nagoya from daily flights to 10 weekly services, and to Fukuoka from five weekly flights to daily services.
In total, THAI will operate a total of 564 weekly flights to 61 destinations in 34 countries, as well as 287 flights to 10 domestic destinations. Other service upgrades include four extra weekly Airbus A340 services to Sydney, taking the total to 18 flights per week; two additional weekly Boeing 777 flights to Oslo, taking the frequency to daily; and one extra Boeing 777 service to Moscow, making four weekly flights.
The Bangkok-based carrier also announced its performance results July, with demand, measured in revenue passenger kilometres (RPK) increasing 12.4% year-on-year. Capacity, measured in available seat kilometres (ASK), expanded 4.8% from July 2009, boosting load factor to 76.5%.
