THAI anoints two new aircraft

Thai Airways International (THAI) has held a Buddhist anointing ceremony for two new wide-bodied aircraft. Today at 08.39am, Somdej Phra Maha Racha Mangkalajarn, the abbot of Wat Paknam, presided over the ceremony for THAI’s new Boeing 777-200ER and Airbus A330-300 at Bangkok’s Suvarnabhumi airport.
THAI’s President, Piyasvasti Amranand, was present at the ceremony. THAI’s new B777 has been named ‘Pathumwan’, while the A330 has been given the title ‘Si Ayutthaya’. Both planes are powered by Rolls Royce Trent engines, and offer in-flight entertainment systems with more than 100 movies, 500 music albums, 60 games and 150 documentaries.
The 292-seat, two-class B777 will operate on international routes to Johannesburg, Oslo, Milan, Auckland, Brisbane and Melbourne, while the 299-seat, two-class A330 will operate to Nagoya, Fukuoka, Osaka and Shanghai.
