Thai Airways International (THAI) has denied that it is taking advantage of the crisis in Japan by raising the price of airfares. The airline’s President, Piyasvasti Amranand, released a statement saying that THAI’s ticket pricing practice follows industry standards, with fares being determined automatically by the carrier’s revenue management system in line with demand and seat supply.
“Ticket price is determined by when and by seat availability at the time of ticket purchase,” Amranand said. He added that THAI was unable to sell promotional fares from Japan, as such discounts “can only be applied in the originating country, and are not allowed to be sold in other markets”.
